CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Clipboard" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Clipboard is a clipboard manager. It saves the text you copy as clipboard history, along with any memos you create, so you can reuse them later. Your clipboard history and memos are stored only on your device. They are never sent to us, to our servers, or to any third party. We cannot see the contents of your clipboard, your history, or your memos.
2. Clipboard Contents
To do its job, the app reads the text currently on your device's clipboard and the copy operations you perform, and saves them into a history database on your device.
- Where it is stored: in the app's private local databases on your device only. This data is not uploaded anywhere.
- Sensitive content: because a clipboard can contain sensitive text (such as passwords, card numbers, or personal messages), please be aware that such text, if you copy it, may be saved to your local history. You can delete any item, clear the whole history, or turn off clipboard capture at any time from within the app.
- Your control: uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data erases all stored history and memos.
3. About the Accessibility API
Clipboard requires Android's accessibility service (AccessibilityService API), which it uses for the following clipboard features only:
- Detecting copy actions in other apps, so that copied text can be added to your history even when copying happens outside our app (modern Android restricts background clipboard access, so this detection is what makes reliable history possible).
- Optional auto-paste, so a item you select can be pasted into the app you are using.
The accessibility service is used exclusively for these clipboard features. Any text it reads is saved only to the local history on your device and is never collected, stored, or transmitted to us or any third party. Because reliable clipboard capture depends on it, this permission is required for the app to function.
4. Information We Collect
4.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include your clipboard contents, history, memos, or any personally identifiable information.
- App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It never includes your clipboard contents and is never used to display ads in the app.
- Purchase / license information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
4.1a Free-Trial Abuse Prevention (free version only)
The free version of Clipboard offers a 7-day free trial, after which a one-time in-app purchase unlocks the app. To prevent the trial from being reset by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, the app sends a one-way hash (SHA-256 with an app-specific salt) of the device's Android ID (SSAID) to our server, which remembers only the date your trial first started.
- The raw Android ID never leaves your device — only the irreversible hash is sent.
- The hash cannot be used to identify you personally and is not linked to any other data. It never contains or relates to your clipboard contents.
- It is used exclusively to prevent abuse of the free trial (fraud prevention).
4.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- Clipboard history and memos: stored only in the app's local databases. Erased when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- App settings: appearance, behavior, and feature toggles are stored only on your device.
- Backups: if you use the import/export (backup) feature, the app writes a backup file to the location you choose. That file stays under your control; we never receive it.
4.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- The contents of your clipboard, history, or memos
- The contents of your communications or your browsing history
- Location information such as GPS coordinates
- Phone number, contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera
4.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Clipboard uses the following permissions only for the stated purposes:
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — The core mechanism of the app: it draws the clipboard board and the floating button as overlay windows on top of other apps, so you can access your history anywhere. It does not read the content of other apps' screens.
- Accessibility service — Required. Used for copy detection and auto-paste, which are core to the app's clipboard features. See Section 3.
- Notifications (Android 13+) — Used to show the persistent notification that keeps the clipboard service available and provides quick access.
- Foreground service (special use) — Keeps the overlay/clipboard service running reliably so history is not missed.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Used to restart the clipboard service after the device reboots, so the app keeps working without manual relaunch.
- Storage (on Android 9 and below only) — Used solely for the import/export backup feature you initiate. On newer Android versions this legacy permission is not used.
5. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect (Section 4.1) is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying purchases
- Understanding aggregate app usage and improving the app (analytics)
- Measuring the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (install conversion measurement)
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
6. Third-Party Services
Clipboard uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
- Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) — anonymous app usage statistics and measurement of our own ad campaigns (install conversions)
- Google Play Billing — payments are completed on the store platform side
- Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosting of the trial-registry server that stores the hashed identifier described in Section 4.1a
Clipboard does not display ads within the app and does not share your data with advertising networks in order to show you ads. Your clipboard history and memos are never shared with any third party.
7. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted.
- Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
- Hashed trial identifier: retained for as long as necessary to prevent abuse of the free trial; deleted upon request via the contact address below.
- Clipboard history, memos, and settings on your device: erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and analytics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described in Section 4.1 may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards. Your clipboard history and memos never leave your device, so they are not subject to any international transfer.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:
- Delete individual history items, clear all history, or turn off clipboard capture within the app
- Reset or delete your device's advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
- Uninstall the app or clear the app's data to erase everything stored on your device
- Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold
10. Children's Privacy
Clipboard is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
